both的用法有兩種，它可以和名詞、代詞連用，也可以和動詞連用，在句中作主語、賓語及同位語，也可作定語。

1、用法

both與名詞、代詞連用

(1)both＋(of)＋the/物主代詞/指示代詞+名詞

(2)both直接修飾名詞時，不加of。

(3)在人稱代詞前一定要用both of，不能說both we或both us，但可以說us both,them both等。

both與動詞連用

當both在句中作主語的同位語時，也可與動詞連用，both在句中的位置有以下兩種情況：

(1)放在是動詞be之后。

(2)放在行為動詞前。

both作代詞時，可單獨使用，其后不接名詞。

both表示兩者都…是個副詞，也可以做代詞，例：

副詞：We are both students.

代詞：Both of us are students.

它的否定形式是neither，詞性和both一樣，例：

副詞：We are neither,tudent.注意是單數(shù)名詞。

代詞：Neither of us IS a student.同樣注意也是單數(shù)。

2、位置

1、一般在放在動詞be，情態(tài)動詞和助動詞之后，實義動詞之前。

如They are both teachers.=Both of them are teachers.

他們倆都是老師。

We can both swim.=Both of us can swim.

我們倆都會游泳。

 Jim and Kate both study hard .

吉姆和凱特都努力學習。

They both come from America.

他們倆都來自美國。

2、作定語時后跟名詞復數(shù)。

There are many trees on both sides of the road .

公路兩旁有許多樹。
