several作形容詞有“幾個(gè)的,若干的;個(gè)別的;各自的”意思,修飾可數(shù)名詞的復(fù)數(shù)形式相對于a few,some而言,several較為正式,一般只能用于肯定句,強(qiáng)調(diào)“不止一兩個(gè)”。

今天我買了幾本書。
(2)There were several problems which tortured the elderly man.
有幾個(gè)問題折磨著那老人。
(3)They shook hands and went their several ways.
他們握了手,然后各走各的路
(4)She raises several pigs.
她養(yǎng)了好幾頭豬。

數(shù)次訪問北京后,她學(xué)會了一點(diǎn)漢語。
(6)There are several holes in the wall.
墻上有幾個(gè)洞。
(1)a few意為“一些,幾個(gè)”。在數(shù)量上用于肯定意義,強(qiáng)調(diào)有一些,后接復(fù)數(shù)可數(shù)名詞。
I have a few friends in New York.我在紐約有幾個(gè)朋友。
(2)a number of意為“許多……,若干……”。強(qiáng)調(diào)數(shù)量的概念,也可說a large/small number of,后接復(fù)數(shù)可數(shù)名詞,謂語動詞用復(fù)數(shù)。
There are number of chairs in the hall.大廳里有一些椅子。
(3)some意為“一些,若干”。帶有不確定性,多用于肯定句中,后接復(fù)數(shù)可數(shù)名詞或不可數(shù)名詞。
Some co-workers attended his party.一些同事參加了他的聚會。
