thousand可用作名詞，有一千個，數(shù)千等含義；也可用作形容詞，有成千的，許許多多等含義；用在復(fù)數(shù)的場合時，不與具體數(shù)字連用。

一.表示數(shù)量,數(shù)字時：基數(shù)詞 + thousand,

one thousand 一千,five thousand 五千 fifty thousand 五萬,three hundred thousand 三十萬

二.作形容詞

成千的;許許多多的,無數(shù)的。

I've warned him a thousand times.

我警告過他無數(shù)次了。

三.作名詞

1.一千;一千個

The town has a population of ten thousand.

這個鎮(zhèn)有一萬人口。

Immediately a thousand bees flew out with a thousand stingers.

帶著一千根尾針的一千只蜜蜂立刻飛了出來。

A thousand people signed the petition.

一千人在請愿書上簽了名。

2.數(shù)千;許許多多,無數(shù)(+of)

The flood took away thousands of lives.

洪水奪走了成千上萬人的生命。

四.用復(fù)數(shù)的場合

不與具體數(shù)字連用，而是表示不確定的泛指數(shù)時，則不僅要要用復(fù)數(shù)，而且要后接介詞of，然后才能接名詞。

The sun was shining. Thousands of people were lying on the beach.

陽光燦爛，數(shù)以千計的人躺在海灘上。
